Saturday football - FA Cup Third Round
It’s that day again when the magic of the FA Cup gets the year’s football rolling. The limelight awaits postmen, bakers and fishermen with the always tantalising prospect that one of them becomes a local hero for life. Man City made light work of Swindon last night, but there are still a few other potential banana skins, notably on Sunday.

MANSFIELD TOWN vs MIDDLESBORO (1215)
League 2 Mansfield come into this on the back of ten wins in their last eleven games while Boro lie a point adrift of the Championship play-off places. The visitors should win this with ease, but with confidence soaring their hosts could make this an uncomfortable afternoon. Away win.

BRISTOL CITY vs FULHAM (1230)
Fifteenth plays third in this all-Championship tie. Away win.

BURNLEY vs HUDDERSFIELD TOWN (1230)
Probably not the kind of game that Sean Dyche really wants right now. Win and they’ll have another game to play, lose and the doom merchants will be out in force. Huddersfield will be up for it, no doubt about that. Fuck knows who will win.

COVENTRY CITY vs DERBY COUNTY (1230)
Just two points would have separated these two were it not for Derby’s points’ deductions. Tough one to call. Territorial advantage just tips the balance. Home win.

HARTLEPOOL UNITED vs BLACKPOOL (1230)
Away win, Jeff.

MILLWALL vs CRYSTAL PALACE (1245)
Aha, what do we have here? Away win.

BARNSLEY vs BARROW (1500)
Home win.

BOREHAM WOOD vs AFC WIMBLEDON (1500)
Away win.

KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS vs READING (1500)
Oh, the romance of the Cup. It’s what memories are made of. Away win.

LEICESTER CITY vs WATFORD (1500)
Home win.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs CAMBRIDGE UNITED (1500)
Home win.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED vs BRISTOL ROVERS (1500)
Home win.

PORT VALE vs BRENTFORD (1500)
Away win.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS vs ROTHERHAM UNITED (1500)
Home win.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION (1500)
Interesting one, this. The onus is on the Seagulls to make their superiority count. Away win.

WIGAN ATHLETIC vs BLACKBURN ROVERS (1500)
Away win.

BIRMINGHAM CITY vs PLYMOUTH ARGYLE (1730)
A little bit of history on the cards at St Andrews as Rebecca Welch is set to become the first female referee to take charge of an FA Cup 3rd round game. The referee’s a woman. Home win.

CHELSEA vs CHESTERFIELD (1730)
Wouldn’t it be funny if… no, can’t happen. Home win.

HULL CITY vs EVERTON (1730)
A chance for the Toffees to regain a little honour and pride. Also a massive booby trap. Away win.

SWANSEA CITY vs SOUTHAMPTON (1730)
Away win.

YEOVIL TOWN vs BOURNEMOUTH (1745)
Away win.

**SUNDAY**

LUTON TOWN vs HARROGATE TOWN (1230)
Home win, unfortunately.

CARDIFF CITY vs PRESTON NORTH END (1400)
Home win.

CHARLTON ATHLETIC vs NORWICH CITY (1400)
Away win.

LIVERPOOL vs SHREWSBURY TOWN (1400)
The banana skin everyone’s looking at. Shrewsbury took us to a replay a couple of years ago. Could they go one better at Anfield? No chance. Sorry. Home win.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs MORECAMBE (1400)
Another tasty banana skin, on paper. Come on, Morecombe! Home win.

WEST HAM UNITED vs LEEDS UNITED (1400)
Could well be two weakened sides playing for a chance to face Morecombe in the next round. We should win. We will win. Home win.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS vs SHEFFIELD UNITED (1400)
Home win.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs ARSENAL (1710)
The boys in white to triumph. Away win.

Does Lingard have a say in being picked as a sub ? Was he hoping not to be used.

Impressed with Villa tonight. They are gonna have a good second half of the season and up nearer the top next season. Ollie Watkins lacks that clinical finish but is a very good player. Would love him at ours.

That VAR checked everything until it found something - typical OT decision.

Shame Lingard has come on for a poxy 5 mins.

It might piss him off and he'll put in a transfer request.

It turns out that Lingard's a right mug. We should keep well clear.

Let's hope this United shitiness carries into our game. Love it if Noble redeems himself with a late pen.

Rashford has to be the most overated player in England.

Man United look utter shit.
Every forward player is ridiculously selfish, the prime example being Rashford who look like he'd rather be a million miles away.

Villa really do deserve to be at least level,Man Utd look very ordinary.

And its fucking ridiculoys that some cup ties have the benefit of VAR while others dont. Surely all games should start on an equal footing?

Horrible bunch of cunts, Ronaldo fits right in.

Joke of a decision, cavani ran straight into the villa player who was under no obligation to move. Amateurish officiating.

lowlife 11:17 Mon Jan 10
Re: Saturday football - FA Cup Third Round
Yep - ridiculous decision. Forensic examination of a potential offside and when that didn’t work out getting Oliver to do a video check on the ‘foul’.

Man Utd have been shit most of the game, really hope they get knocked out.

master 11:13 Mon Jan 10
Re: Saturday football - FA Cup Third Round
Farcical decision at old Trafford. Not a foul, not offside, no touch and not off the hand. No goal.

VAR will check whether the bus driver ran a amber light on the way to the stadium to rule out anything for villa.
